A limited-edition hand-blown candle, created in collaboration between perfumer Lyn Harris and painter Will Calver to celebrate this holiday season.

Inspired by the Dutch Masters of the 17th century, the pair worked side by side to distil painted idylls into scent — each one a doorway into their shared world, where still life is reimagined in olfactory form.

In ROSE WITH INSECT, a delicate classic is subverted with a darker touch. Like the petrol-blue iridescence of an insect against the chiffon pinks of a painted bouquet, the interplay of light and dark is perfected to create a radical new beauty for the festive season.

Notes of immortelle, honey, orange flower, cardamom and birch tar come together to subvert a delicate classic with a darker touch — a play of light and shadow to reveal radical new beauty this festive season.

Our hand blown candles are uniquely coloured and engraved by renowned British glass blower, Michael Ruh. They can be refilled endlessly using our refill service in various locations worldwide.

Notes

Immortelle, Honey, Orange Flower, Cardamom, Birch Tar.

Storage Instructions

Store your candle in a dry, temperate place, between 15 and 25°C. Be sure to make your first use within 2 months of receiving your candle.

A hand-poured, custom blend of wax, and wicks constructed with natural fibres

How to use

For the best performance, burn the candle for 3 hours at a time. Keep the wick trimmed regularly to approx. 5mm. Clean and remove the bulb after burning and recenter the wick. For the first burn, the candle must liquefy the entire circumference (if you don't, your candle will start tunnelling). If the flame is too small, carefully pour out liquid wax. Candles must be placed on a receptacle or heat-resistant surface. Do not burn the candle all the way down to the base; always leave 1cm of non-molten wax at the bottom. Do not set in a draft. Do not leave a burning candle unattended.

Rose With Insect

In this composition, the guiding image was that of an insect’s petrol-blue iridescent wings beside the chiffon pinks of a still-life bouquet; for the resulting fragrance, the classic rose is provocatively reimagined with a heady mix of peach and neroli, deepened by musk and cardamom.

A base grounded in sandalwood, papyrus and birch mirrors the shadow that follows intrusion — dark tones pressing against light — all to reveal a brand new bloom, even more desirable in its destruction.

A Painted Life

This Winter, Lyn brings together the worlds of perfumery and painting. In collaboration with Kent-based British artist Will Calver, she presents a triptych of paintings and their olfactory world, inviting the mind to wander through the senses.

"Perfumery works like painting.
You can't just use rose, you have to use spices.
You have to use a little bit of fruit.
You have to use a little bit of citrus, a bit of green, a bit of the balms.
We paint, but in an olfactory way - I create olfactory paintings.
Because for me, smell is my way of portraying my creativity.”

– Lyn Harris

A Painted Life

A Tale of the Senses

Smoke in Woods

Splinters, ash, a thin thread of smoke rising from the ground. In the distance, the warmth of a fire hints at company...

Rose with Insect

A delicate classic with a darker touch—peach, neroli and cardamom collide with sandalwood and shadow.

Bird And Lemon

A feather falls silently into place, a lemon glints in the still light. Bergamot, apricot and oak unfurl.
